Summary: Notarial instrument containing the absolution of Brother Robert de Esby, monk of Rievaulx, from excommunication incurred for administering the sacraments to Roger Sissotson from another parish, contrary to canonical sanctions; with conditions that within a year he must obtain remission from Rome and say the Pater Noster and Ave Maria five times each on bended knee himself at the tomb of St William in York Minster, making an offering of one groat (4d).
