| Summary: | Commission to William de Wyrkesworth [Wirksworth], rector of Slaidburn (Slaithborne), Walter de Thornton, vicar of Doncaster, and Richard Ferer, vicar of Brodsworth, to survey and inquire into the state of the priory of Hampole which is publicly known to be in a state of collapse due to indiscrete rule and other causes, whereby a dispersal of the nuns is being contemplated unless swift remedy can be found, to correct and reform any defects found, to absolve the prioress of her governance if she can show reasonable cause for this, and to permit, approve and confirm the election of a successor; with a memorandum of the remission to the prioress and convent of the payment of their subsidy, with a further memorandum of notification to the receiver of York to stay the demand (two entries). |
