Summary: Memoranda of licences of the vicar general for the following persons to have masses celebrated: prior and convent of North Ferriby in an oratory within 'Cotys in Waldyng' for one year; Richard Clyff [Cliff], donzel, within his manor of Cliffe (Clyff), for one year; Thomas Ravynthorp [Ravensthorpe] of Ravensthorpe, within his house in Ravensthorpe for one year; Margaret, widow of Sir Richard de Roclyff [Rawcliffe], knight, within her manor for one year (four entries).
Subject:
Women
Widows
Note:
The identity of 'Cotys in Waldyng' is unknown, but the lands of the priory lay close to the house, on the north bank of the Humber. It may have been a farm or grange in Sculcoates or Southcoates, but the 'cote' name was extremely common. 'Waldyng' may be a rendition of 'wald inges', meaning 'wooded meadow' or similar.
