| Summary: | Memorandum that the convocation of the prelates and clergy of the diocese of Carlisle, convened during the visitation of the diocese by the archbishop of York during the vacancy of the see following the death of Master Thomas de Appilby [Appleby], the previous bishop of Carlisle, assented to an agreement made with the archbishop's council that a tenth should be payable to the archbishop on Palm Sunday next [26 March 1396], at £40, in return for the visitation being held at only four specific places (details given); with a memorandum of receipt of the sum of £40 by Master John Suthwell [Southwell], vicar general, on that date (two entries). |
