| Summary: | Proceedings relating to the church of Kirk Smeaton (Smeton, Smytheton), vacant by the death of William de Smytheton [Smeaton], the former rector, on 24 September 1329, and to which John de Sevill' [Saville] presented William de Boseville, clerk, whereupon an inquisition was held over the right to present on this occasion; with 1) prohibitions against a presentation from King Edward III, dated at Worcester (Wyg'), 8 October 1329, and at Kenilworth (Kenylworth), 25 November 1329, due to a plea pending before him between Hugh de Hastynges [Hastings] and Margery, his wife, John de Camoys and Margaret, his wife, and John de Sayvill [Saville]; with the deed of presentation from Hastynges of William de Roceholm, clerk, to the church, dated at Wargrave (Wergrave), 22 October 1329; 2) a request from King Edward III, dated at Stony Stratford (Stanystretford), 23 October 1329, to admit William de Roceholm, presented to him by John de Camoys and Margaret, his wife, sister and one of the heirs of Sir Richard Foliot, knight, who last presented, the custody of their purparty of his estates being in the hands of King Edward II, the late king; 3) Archbishop Melton's mandate for the inquisition, dated at Melton, 24 November 1329; 4) Edward III's writ of recovery of the presentation against John de Sayvill [Saville], dated at Banbury (Bannebury), 28 April 1330; 5) mandate from Edward III demanding Melton admits Roceholm rather than delay his institution by reason of the king's earlier prohibition, dated at Woodstock (Wodestoke), 3 May 1330. |
