Summary: Request and exhortation to the abbot and convent of Whitby to admit into their house Brother William Basset, monk of Monk Bretton (Monkbretton), who has recently been accused of certain serious offences and, though he had been submitted to purgation by the archbishop's commissioners, could not purge himself; the prior of Monk Bretton is to provide him with five marks annually to cover his expenses, on condition that he does not leave the monastery without licence from the archbishop, have conversation with seculars, or receive or send letters unless previously viewed by the abbot; with note of the penance to be imposed upon him.
