| Summary: | Dispensation for Thomas de Silkeston [Silkstone], vicar of Newark, formerly canon regular of the priory of St Katherine by Lincoln, of the Order of St Gilbert, pursuant to his petition, for having sworn an oath of obedience under compulsion to Robert de Navenby, master of Sempringham, upon being warned to return to his priory at Robert's suggestion by Archbishop Zouche, where, leaving in fear for his estate, he appealed to the Roman Curia and for tuition of the court of York, leading the master to excommunicate him as a rebel and apostate and falsely induce the king to arrest him in his vicarage and to be taken with violence to Sempringham, and for having escaped this custody with the help of friends; and, notwithstanding the oaths, he is to be permitted to return to his vicarage and not be bound by his extorted resignation thereof. |
