Summary: Letter from Simon Sudbury, archbishop of Canterbury, reciting a letter of Pope Gregory XI dated at Villeneuve-les-Avignon, 15 July 1375, giving details of an initial demand made in 1372 for a subsidy of 100,000 florins from the clergy of England, received at the archbishop's manor of Croydon on 6 September 1375, witnessed by Thomas Chalener, rector of ?Sible Hedingham (Hengeham); John Whitechurch, rector of Foxearth (Foxherde), and John Ware, clerk of London diocese, notary public, with a notarial subscription of inspection on 13 September 1375 by Master John de Barton on Humber, Lincoln diocese, clerk, and notary public to the archbishop of Canterbury.
