| Summary: | Acquittance (receipt) by the king for £100 received from the archbishop in the name of the pope, by the hands of John [Hotham], bishop of Ely, treasurer, and the chamberlains of the Exchequer, in part payment of the first year of the six papal tenths imposed in 1312, by the prior of Thurgarton as subcollector in the archdeaconry of Nottingham. |

The document appears to be an acknowledgement of receipt, but is stated to be a bond (obligatio), presumably because the money was intended to be repaid to the pope. Also, a marginal note states that three letters (this and two others; Reg 9A, f. 16r, entries 6-8), were brought to the archbishop at Sherburn in Elmet on 30 August 1319 by the hands of a canon of Thurgarton.
