Summary: Heading referring to pleas held before William de Herle and his fellow justices of Common Pleas in Hilary term 1 Edward III [1328], with a transcript of a pleading from the plea roll of the court of Common Pleas for Hilary term 1328, where Alice, widow of John de Barneby, sought possession of a messuage in Ripon (Rypon) against Thomas de Doncastr' [Doncaster]. The archbishop's bailiff of Ripon claimed cognisance of the suit on behalf of the archbishop and his liberty, presenting a royal writ of 25 January 1328, and this was granted.
