Summary: Papal mandate of Pope Boniface VIII concerning the reservation of the next vacant dignity or parsonage in the church of York for Francis [Francesco Caetani], now Cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, before becoming cardinal; showing that Francis had accepted the vacant office of dean, but that William de Hamelton [Hambleton], archdeacon of York, had been elected and confirmation granted by Henry [of Newark], archbishop of York, on the advice of the archdeacon and Roger de Marra [Mar], subdean (or succentor). Geoffrey de Vezano, bishop of Parma, then clerk of the papal chamber and canon of Cambrai and John de Luco, canon of London, had been appointed by the pope for the citation of the archbishop; archdeacon; subdean and chapter to appear before him (details of process given), with the result that Francis was ordered to resign from the office of dean and accept the next vacant dignity or parsonage in the church of York.
