| Section Type: |
Archdeaconry of York
|
| Summary: | Memorandum that on 21 December 1362, appearing before the archbishop [John Thoresby] in his principal chamber at Cawood, the bishop of Carlisle [Gilbert Welton] renounced a pension of 40 marks from the abbot and convent of Selby, granted to him in the time of Archbishop Zouche; and with his consent, this grant has been annulled in Zouche's register (witnesses named) (insert). |
| Note: |
This is the face of this inserted folio, which has been folded over, and the right hand end is now damaged and largely illegible, but the sense is clear. It appears to record the personal appearance of the bishop of Carlisle, Gilbert Welton, who must therefore have died almost immediately afterwards (ODNB).
