| Summary: | The dean and chapter of York request clarification of their charters, as the king's ministers wrongfully enter their lands to make distraint. They also request confirmation as to where pleas involving them, the canons and their men may be held, as the city bailiffs interpret their charter to refer only to their villeins and not their other tenants. They request confirmation of Henry III's charter granting them and the archbishop the right to have a coroner in the city of York, and that none of their men or tenants be dealt with before the seneschal, marshal or clerk of the market unless their own bailiff has failed to do right. They also request licence for a pillory and tumbrel within York, to punish their tenants who breach the assizes of bread and ale. |

| Summary: | Archbishop Melton complains that he purchased the manor of Bentworth with the king's permission from the archbishop of Rouen, but was expelled by Richard de Wynteworth, who has no right in the manor. He brought an assize of novel disseisin against him, which should have been heard on Monday 11 March last, and the king issued letters to John Juge to hold the assize, despite the fact that parliament was sitting. But Wynteworth secured letters under the king's secret seal, ordering Juge to be at parliament at Westminster, thus delaying the assize. Melton requests that the king order the justices to take the assize on the appointed day. |

| Summary: | Commission to Aldeburgh, Basset and Parning to enquire whether Wodehous or his predecessors as archdeacon of Richmond ever held the presentation to St Sampson's, York. Wodehous previously brought an assize of darrein presentment against the prior of Pontefract for this advowson, which he did not prosecute and the prior won by default. There was an investigation into whether this was a fraudulent case, but it found no collusion, and that the prior had never presented in living memory, and the archdeacon petitioned the king for restoration, as it was taken into the king's hand during this process. |

| Summary: | Writ summoning all records relating to the liberties of the archbishop of York in Nottinghamshire. Attached to a copy of a quo warranto plea held before Herle at Nottingham on 13 November 1329, where Archbishop Melton was summoned to show by what warrant he claimed various liberties in Southwell and Laneham with soke, including infangthief and furcas, a fair at Southwell on Pentecost and four days following, and on the vigil, feast and morrow of St Thomas the Martyr, and a market on Saturdays, fines for breaches of the assize of bread and ale in Southwell and Laneham, pillory and tumbrell, and free warren in their lands in Southwell and its soke, Laneham, Scrooby, Askham, Sutton and Plumtree, and to have their three parks at Hockesgrave, Hockerwod and Northwod in the manor of Southwell, and one in Scrooby. Archbishop, by attorney William de Suwell. Concerning most Melton claimed that the archbishops them as lords of the manor form time immemorial; and for free warren, Edward II granted and confirmed that free warren in Southwell, etc., provided the lands were not in the royal forest, showing charter dated 16 November 1323. The archbishops have held the parks from time immemorial as pertaining to their manors. Jury come and say that all the liberties except the free warren have been held as pertaining to the manors, and the free warren is taken into the king's hands. Archbishop pays a fine of 5 marks, and recovers his liberties. |
