Summary: Memorandum of a cause heard before Master John de Burton, the archbishop's chancellor and auditor of causes in the court of audience, by virtue of a citation put forward by the inhabitants of East Ayton (Aton) within the parish of Seamer (Semer), complaining that Robert, vicar of Seamer, who appeared in person in court, would not allow them to have a chaplain for their chapel. Following questioning, Robert admitted the benefits of them employing a chaplain to administer the sacraments, and also that if the chaplain they employed was not sufficiently qualified to hear confessions, then he would go there for that purpose or send a suitable confessor to them.
