Summary: Royal writ ordering the archbishop to distrain William de Stolkeye, rector of Melling in Lonsdale (Mellyng in Lonnesdale), by his benefice, so that he appears before the barons of the Exchequer at Westminster at the octave of Trinity, to answer Walter [Reynolds], bishop of Worcester, the treasurer, concerning a certain book of decretals worth 20 marks which he unjustly detains. The archbishop informed the barons on the morrow of the close of Easter last that the previous writ arrived too late. Witnessed by William de Carleton [Carlton]. Response noting that this was done.

Summary: Mandate to the official of the archdeacon of York to have a sentence of major excommunication announced at the church of Pontefract and the chapel of St Giles there (if it is safe, otherwise in neighbouring churches) on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Saturday and Sunday, and on Sundays and feast days thereafter, against the malefactors who, in the church of Pontefract and its cemetery, laid violent hands on the archbishop's clerks and commissioners sent there for the exercise of special jurisdiction, and who seized and still withhold their books and rolls; with memorandum of similar letters sent to the rectors of Womersley (Wilmersley) [deleted], Kirk Smeaton (Smytheton), Normanton and Crofton, and the vicars of Pontefract, Darrington (Darthington) and Featherstone (Fethirstane), and a further note that the letter to the rectors was not sent (two entries).
Marginalia: A pointing hand at the foot of folio 4v draws attention to this entry. It has been much altered, possibly from a standard form.
