Summary:	Mandate to the archdeacon of York to convoke the clergy of the archdeaconry and enjoin upon them the need for the clergy of the diocese to be arrayed and armed for the defence of the realm, word having reached the king that Charles [V], supposed king of France, has withdrawn from his fealty to King Edward III and has gone on the offensive against the English, invading and occupying Ponthieu and Aquitaine in contravention of the peace, aiming to destroy and extirpate the English Church, realm and people and eradicate the English nation and name, and the prelates and clergy in council in London having unanimously agreed to the array and arming of the clergy of England, and he is to proceed with ecclesiastical censures against all those who do not comply and neglect to meet the array; with order to certify by his letters patent the numbers arrayed, the manner of the array and the names of those ought to be arrayed and those not appearing before the feast of St Peter ad Vincula [1 August].
