| Summary: | Bishop Fordham requests remedy, stating that his predecessors used to have great profits from the coal in the bishopric, and especially from loading and shipping in the River Tyne, but the men of Newcastle now hinder this, contrary to the statute made at the York parliament of 1335. Also, while he ought to have access for ships to his part of the water, the men and officers of Newcastle are preventing vessels from arriving and loading, and will not allow the bishop's own vessels to receive his coals, and put undue and grievous impositions on all coal loaded. He has therefore had no profit from his coal during his time in office. |
