| Summary: | Indenture between the king and the prior and convent of Durham, noting that due to the destruction by the Scots, the king granted licence for the priory to appropriate the church of Hemingbrough, in return for the priory releasing a grant of Edward I of £40 per year from the exchequer of Berwick, which they had failed to receive for many years, would provide chaplains in Durham cathedral and Hemingbrough [details given], and would release all claim to the advowson of Simonburn. Memorandum that a copy of this indenture was received and kept in the treasury. |

| Summary: | Letters to the chapter of York, notifying them that the archbishop has deputed Master Thomas de Bucton [Buckton], doctor of laws, official of York, to treat with them and obtain their consent for the appropriation of the church of Hemingbrough (Hemyngburgh) by the prior and convent of Durham (Dunolm), King Edward III having frequently implored the archbishop to have regard for the poverty of the house and the loss and diminution of their annuities, rents and possessions, particularly due to the Scottish wars, and to compensate them for an annual rent of 40 marks which they previously received from the issues of the town of Berwick upon Tweed (Berwic'), which they remitted to the king and his heirs, and the chantries and lights they established and sustain at their own costs for the king's soul in Durham Cathedral, and to fulfil the promise of King Edward II, in support of the burdens of hospitality imposed upon them and their commitment to works of charity, that they might appropriate the church of Simonburn (Symonburn), but which he ultimately denied to them, King Edward III wishing to allow them to support such burdens in future. |
