| Summary: | Cotes states that the King recovered the presentation to the church of Fishlake against the prior of Lewes, and he was instituted and inducted and held it for over two years, but then, the bishop of Lincoln, chancellor of England, at the instance of Vaurelly, alien provisor, repealed the judgment, allowed Vaurelly to sue for his provision, and Cotes was forced to resign, notwithstanding the responses previous petitions of Cotes presented to the parliaments at Northampton and Salisbury. [Further details given.] Response that he is to sue to have the writs brought before the council, along with the record of the judgment. |

| Summary: | Writ of certiorari ordering Stonor to return details of a suit between the king and the abbot of Rufford over the presentation to a moiety of the church of Rotherham. The abbots, as general proctors for the Cistercians in England, had presented since the time of Henry III (vicars listed), but it was vacant after the death of Laurence de Athewyk. The king is now king claiming the presentation because the temporalities of the Cistercians are in his hands on account of the French war, but the abbot is preventing this, claiming that the Cistercians granted the church to them at farm, so he should present. On the death of Athewyk, Abbot Elias presented William Levert, but Pope Benedict removed him and presented William le Lytester. The king continued to claim that the abbot of Rufford only presented as proctor. On 26 November 1342, the king sent letters close to the court, containing a certification from Archbishop Zouche, dated 24 November 1342, stating that he had searched the registers of Archbishops Gray, Romeyn and Greenfield, and that of the Dean and Chapter for the period after the death of Archbishop Melton, and found various relevant entries (recited). The king later sent similar letters, with the results of a search of the Exchequer records, containing findings from the taxation returns listing sums paid from the church of Rotherham (recited). | Summary: | Revocation of the ratification of the papal collation of Montefiore to the prebend of South Cave, and ratification of the estate of Kilsby. During the last vacancy, the king collated Kilsby on the death of Cardinal Orsini, but Montefiore wrongly secured papal provision through a suit in the Roman curia, and secured ratification from the king. The pope had no such provision, and Montefiore has prosecuted suits in the Roman court prejudicial to the king. |
