Summary: Order to the dean and chapter of York, as guardians of the spirituality of the archbishopric during the vacancy, not to meddle with the grammar schools in the hospital of St Leonard, York, or anything else pertaining to the hospital, as the hospital is a royal foundation and free from ordinary jurisdiction, in the authority of the king and his chancellor. The king understands that they intend to implead Marton, master of the grammar schools, from holding those schools, and have summoned him before them to show his title to hold them.

Summary: Writ summoning into Chancery the process in a case between the king and Markenfield over lands in Riccall, taken into the king's hands by escheator Skutterskelfe. The escheator claimed that he had not taken the land from Markenfield, but that an inquisition found that a bishop of Durham, who held a tenement there in chief as parcel of his barony of Howden, and then, in the reign of Edward I, alienated this land ('Foulthwayt', 'Littelhurst', 'Thomashagh' and 'Huddridyng') without licence to his chamberlain, William del Chambre. Chambre similarly alienated it without licence to Thomas de Godesburgh, Godesburgh to John de Markenfield, and John to his bastard son, Andrew. Thomas Markenfield, as tenant, claimed that this land was not a parcel of Howden, but Robert, bishop of Durham, gave it to Chambre and his heirs before 20 Henry III [1235-6], and he now has that title. King's attorney maintained his claim. Jury at nisi prius stated that Robert de Stichull, bishop of Durham, gave the lands to Chambre before 20 Henry III, as claimed by Markenfield. The land is restored.

Summary: The dean and chapter of York state that, in the second year of his reign, the king permitted the archbishop of York to grant them the advowson of Misterton, which he did, and that later, by papal authority, the archbishop allowed them to appropriate that church for ten years from its next vacancy. This vacancy happened in the first week of Lent, 1387, and they are still in possession, but the archbishop has presented to the church, contrary to his grant. They request confirmation of the appropriation and of their title. Granted by the King.
