Summary: The petitioner asks the king to order the chancellor to speed up the case against Caetani concerning the vacant archdeaconry of Richmond. The king has brought a writ of quare impedit, and has day on the morrow of St John the Baptist, but this will not leave enough time before the term ends on the quindene of St John, and the archdeaconry will be harmed if the case is delayed until the octave of Michaelmas.

Summary: The sub-prior and convent of Hexham request orders to the archbishop of York, the dean and chapter of York, the bishops of Durham and Carlisle and the archbishop's bailiff of Hexham that they are not to distrain their goods until the dispute with the archbishop has been settled. Despite royal protection, the archbishop has sequestered all their goods and lands in the liberty of Hexham, and caused the bishops of Durham and Carlisle to do the same, because they will not accept Boroughbridge as their prior and have elected Whelpington.

Summary: Letter containing various pieces of news. Report of money due to the recipient at Candlemas from Catton, Aughton, Alne and Acomb. Tollerton is unable to sell wool and stock due to the fear of war. The writer has spoken to the chancellor and the prior of Ellerton concerning the church of Aughton, and John [de Catton] will take the church of Catton provided the writer is his co-parcener. The king came to York 'this Thursday', and is staying at the palace, and the recipient's houses have been taken over by 'the earl'. The bishop of Chester, the earl of Cornwall, Beaumont and FitzWilliam came with the king, and are staying until Easter. The bishop of Chester has been sworn as Treasurer. On Sunday the king called together the knights of Yorkshire, and said that everything done in London was done against his will and he has revoked it. The king has given Cottingham church to Hothum, with whom he dined on his first night in York.

Summary: The prior and convent of Newstead ask that the king write again to the archbishop of York, asking him to approve their appropriation of Egmanton church. The archbishop has not acted on the previous letters. The king replies that he will write to the archbishop.

Note: The petitioners received licence to appropriate Egmanton church on 31 October 1315 (CPR 1313-17, p. 398), but this was not completed until 22 June 1329. It is not clear where in the process this petition fits, but it probably dates to the time of Archbishop Melton, the main objector to this appropriation.
