| Summary: | Response to a royal writ of 15 April 1348 (recited), asking that, given the king's urgent need, the payment of the two clerical tenths recently granted (in January 1347) be moved forward to the feasts of St Barnabas (11 June) in 1348 and 1349. The clergy of York and Carlisle, meeting on 13 June 1348, agreed to move the payment dates to 15 August 1348 and Michaelmas 1349, but the bishop and clergy of Durham refused to do so. |

| Summary: | Letter of the bishops of London and Lincoln, principal collectors of the subsidy for the Holy Land imposed by Pope Clement V and deputed to King Edward I for three years [final three of the seven papal tenths imposed in 1305], to the abbot and convent of Gloucester, subcollectors in the diocese of Worcester, requesting that collection of the tenth from the archbishop of York in Worcester diocese be stayed. The registers of the taxation made by John [of Pontoise], bishop of Winchester and Oliver [Sutton], bishop of Lincoln, have shown that the archbishop was charged 2000 marks for all his goods throughout the realm, payable to the abbot of St Mary's, York, and no goods were taxed in the diocese of Worcester. |
