| Summary: | Bussh states that, on the king's command, he abandoned his claim to a prebend in York, which he held of the king's father's gift for 6 years and for which he had a judgment in the court of Rome against Hotham, on the promise that he would have another prebend there, and prebends in Lincoln, Salisbury and London. However, he has received nothing, and asks that the king have consideration for him, or for his nephew, John Bussh, bachelor of laws. The king replies asking for advice from the bishop. |

| Note: | Hotham replaced Bussh as prebendary of Stillington in 1311, and became bishop of Ely in 1316. The reference to the king's father's appointment of Bussh dates the petition to the reign of Edward II. For Bush, see also SC 8/97/4832. |

| Summary: | Memorandum that in the archbishop's palace in York, where Queen Isabella was lodged, before Archbishop Melton, Bishop Hotham, chancellor, Bishop Burghersh, treasurer, and Scrope, Langeton and Sexdecim Vallibus asked whether Melton would cause his place called 'the old bailey' to be defended against the Scots, as they defend the city, but Melton said that the bailey is within the city, and part of it, and thus it was the city's responsibility. He only arranged its defence on one occasion, during time of great peril, on the condition that it was no precedent, as shown in a document. The officials agreed with the document, but said that place was not part of the city, and the fortifications were the archbishop's to defend. Melton agreed to garrison it on this occasion, while the queen and her children were present, on condition that the city assist should the Scots attack, and that this is not taken as precedent. This was agreed. |
