| Summary: | Certification from Archbishop Neville, in response to a royal writ of 28 September 1384 (recited), stating that convocation met in York on 11 January 1385 and, after three days of deliberations, granted the king one tenth, payable at Pentecost and St Peter ad Vincula next. Exemptions included benefices and temporalities in Northumberland, Cumberland and Copeland devastated by Scottish incursions and English armies, Egglestone Abbey, whose goods had been burnt in a fire, and all Cluniac, Benedictine and Augustinian nuns, on account of their poverty. This was all on condition that the cost of repairing any damages done by the Scots in the meantime should be deducted from the tax. Further writs arrived on 15 January and 24 February 1385 (not recited), and convocation met again on Friday 21 April 1385, and granted another half a tenth, with the same exceptions, on condition that the king lead an army against the French or Scots before Martinmas next. The tax was payable within two months of such a campaign, and the collectors were the abbots of Kirkstall and Jervaulx, and the priors of Watton, Newburgh and Lenton. |

| Summary: | Certification that the northern convocation met in York Minster on 11 March 1399, and on 12 May they granted the king a tenth, payable on 1 May 1400 and 1 May 1401. Exceptions were granted to benefices destroyed by the Scots in Cumberland, Copeland, Westmorland and Northumberland, nuns, the monasteries of Egglestone, Calder and Rufford, on account of their notorious poverty, and those of Monk Bretton, Watton and Warter, overburdened with other charges. Livings of £10 or less were also exempted, as were the lands of the archbishop and the abbeys of St Mary's, York and Selby in the Marshland, destroyed by inundations of the Humber and the sea, and certain sums from churches previously belonging to the abbey of Meaux, also destroyed by flooding. |

| Summary: | Memorandum that the northern convocation met in York Minster chapter house on 2 June 1404 and granted the king a tenth, payable on 20 January 1404 and 1 November 1405, under certain conditions. Inquisitions being carried out contrary to church liberties, even on temporalities and spiritualities acquired since the Statute of Mortmain, were to cease; the clergy were to be exempt from the recent parliamentary subsidy; and exceptions were to be granted to all benefices in Cumberland, Northumberland, Copeland and Westmorland, the priory of Watton, all nuns in the province, the monasteries of Egglestone, Calder, Rufford and Mattersey on account of their poverty, and all benefices, etc., valued at £10 or less per year. The archbishop was not to certify this grant to the king, or appoint collectors, until these conditions were agreed. |
