Summary: Notarial instrument containing an inquisition concerning whether the vicar of South Leverton was obliged to provide a chaplain to minister to the parishioners in the chapel on three days per week; with a mandate from John [de Thoresby], archbishop of York (recited), dated at Bishopthorpe, 20 May 1370, ordering an inquisition into this case by the dean of Retford, who found in favour of the parishioners, with a notarial subscription by John called of Howden (Houeden), clerk of York diocese, notary public (witnesses named), sealed on 31 May 1402; and a mandate of Simon [Langham], Cardinal priest of S Sixtus, papal nuncio, dated at London, 7 June 1402, to warn Thomas de Langwath to provide a chaplain to serve the chapel (details given) (three entries).
