Summary: Notarial instrument of William Englissh [English], clerk of York diocese, proctor of the chapter of Beverley, containing the appeal (provocatio et appellatio) (recited) of the chapter of Beverley, setting out the constitutions of the minster, including the fact that the canons, vicars and other ministers of the church fell under the jurisdiction of the chapter of Beverley for such matters as disputes, visitations and corrections made following visitations, and that that jurisdiction is recognised by the archbishops of York, the chapter of York and the present archbishop. The appeal of the chapter to Rome is noted, together with their grievances against the archbishop, who now claimed jurisdiction over the canons (details given) (witnesses named); with a notarial subscription by Richard de Strensall, clerk of York diocese, notary public.
