Summary: Inspeximus of the letters (recited) of Brother Guillaume [Pierre Godin], bishop of Sabina (Sabinen'), communicating the petition of John de Bridesal' [Birdsall] for having killed in self-defence with a staff William son of David, called Cook, of Aston in his chamber at night, which he had entered in hostile manner with many others who positioned themselves in the doorway and pelted John with stones, and ordering him, following inquiry, not to impede him ministering in orders; and certification, dated at Poppleton (Popleton), 17 September, to Archbishop Melton by the dean of Doncaster of his inquisition into the matter, confirming John's petition; with transcript of the inquisition return dated at Rotherham (Roderham), 12 October (jurors named and further details given).
