| Summary: | Mandate to the dean of Pontefract to go to Whitgift (Whitegifte) and explain in English (materna lingua) to the people there the penance issued by Archbishop Thoresby to Adam Dey, William Frankys, Thomas Grayne, John Cometo, Edmund Hoker, Robert Aldeman, John son of William de Heton and Agnes Sprout, having chased Robert Warner to the sanctuary of the churchyard and church of Whitgift (Whitegifte), for having dragged him violently out of that sanctuary and imprisoned him in a secular prison, for which they incurred a sentence of excommunication, and the lesser penance issued to Avice wife of John Cometo, Isabella Scot, Joan Malkok and Joan Walcotes, for having assisted them. The archbishop has absolved them upon their display of contrition and promise of future good behaviour (details given). |
